Access to suitable drinking water is an essential need for every community. In rural areas of Pakistan, however, communities can face difficulties when their available water sources contain contaminants or require additional treatment before drinking.
To address this need, a 500 litres-per-hour water filtration plant in Dadimal, Nagar was installed under the Water for Life project in 2025. The plant is located in Dadimal Village, Union Council Phekar, Tehsil Sikander Abad, District Nagar, Gilgit-Baltistan.
The project was donated by Hadi Shehzad and completed on 15 October 2025, before being officially inaugurated on 24 October 2025.
Clean Water Project in Dadimal, Nagar
The project began following requests from residents of Dadimal for improved access to drinking water.
According to the project report, water testing was conducted before installation and identified concerns about the suitability of the existing water for drinking. A filtration plant was subsequently installed at the location of an existing water tank.
Following installation and commissioning, another water quality test was performed. The project report states that the treated water was found fit for human consumption.

Supporting Families in Dadimal Village
The Dadimal water filtration plant was established as a community resource intended to improve local access to treated drinking water.
According to the project statistics, the plant is expected to support approximately:
- 100 men
- 150 women
- 600 children
- 500 livestock
This represents approximately 850 community members, in addition to livestock.
With a filtration capacity of 500 litres per hour, the plant provides a local facility where residents can obtain treated water without relying solely on the previously available source.
How the Water Filtration System Works
The project uses a cartridge-based water filtration system.
In this type of system, water passes through specialised filter cartridges designed to remove particular impurities. Depending on the filtration media installed, different stages can target sediment, suspended particles and other contaminants.
The project documentation describes a process that can include sediment filtration, activated carbon filtration and other treatment stages depending on water quality requirements.
Regular inspection and timely cartridge replacement are important for maintaining the performance of this type of filtration system.
From Water Testing to Installation
The water filtration project in Dadimal followed a structured implementation process.
After residents raised concerns about drinking water, the project team carried out water testing and assessed the need for a filtration facility.
The implementation included:
- Assessing the community’s drinking-water requirements.
- Conducting water testing before installation.
- Establishing a local volunteer committee.
- Reviewing other filtration plants operating nearby.
- Selecting and verifying a suitable vendor.
- Constructing a dedicated filtration plant room.
- Preparing and tiling the water-filling area.
- Installing the filtration equipment.
- Conducting a test run and commissioning the plant.
- Testing the water following installation.
- Inaugurating the completed facility.
- Conducting site visits to monitor project progress.
Community Participation and Volunteers
Local participation was an important part of the Dadimal project. According to the report, a group of local volunteers contributed to construction activities, helping reduce overall project costs.
The local volunteers included Imdad Hussain, Sabir Hussain, Abid Hussain, Muhammad Ali, Assadullah and Yaseen.
The wider project was also supported by staff involved in planning, coordination, construction, installation and monitoring.
Hadi Shehzad’s Support for the Project
The project documentation identifies Hadi Shehzad as the donor of the Dadimal Water Filtration Plant.
The plant was donated for Aqeel Project, Imran Chaudhry and Madiha Imran on behalf of Mrs. Riffat Anwar Sahiba.
By establishing permanent community infrastructure rather than providing only short-term assistance, the project was designed to create an ongoing source of treated water for residents.
Building Sustainable Access to Drinking Water
The completion of the 500 LPH Water Filtration Plant in Dadimal, Nagar represents a practical investment in community infrastructure.
With approximately 850 residents expected to benefit from the facility, the project provides a local source of treated water while demonstrating the value of cooperation between donors, project teams and community volunteers.
Ongoing maintenance, water-quality monitoring and timely replacement of filtration components will remain important for keeping the facility operating effectively over the long term.
