Access to safe drinking water is essential for healthy communities. In rural areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, however, access to reliable and clean water can remain a significant challenge. To help address this need, a 500 litres-per-hour water filtration plant in Bar Das, Nagar was successfully installed to provide the local community with a sustainable source of filtered drinking water.
Located in Bar Das Village, Tehsil Chalt Sikander Abad, District Nagar, Gilgit-Baltistan, the project was completed in June 2026 and officially inaugurated on 11 July 2026.
The water filtration plant was donated by Hadi Shehzad and established with support for the Aqeel Project and Kelly Marashi, creating long-term benefits for local families and the wider community.
Clean Water Project in Bar Das, Nagar
Before the installation of the filtration plant, water quality testing identified contamination in the available water source. This highlighted the need for an effective filtration solution that could provide safer water for everyday consumption.
Following site preparation, installation and commissioning, further water testing was carried out. The project report confirmed that the treated water was suitable for human use.
With a capacity of 500 litres per hour, the filtration plant provides the community with improved access to filtered drinking water close to home.

Supporting the Bar Das Community
The Bar Das water filtration plant has been established to support hundreds of local residents who require reliable access to cleaner water.
The project is expected to benefit approximately:
- 700 men
- 700 women
- 400 children
- 400 livestock
Access to appropriately treated drinking water can help communities reduce exposure to contaminants associated with unsafe water while supporting better hygiene and everyday wellbeing.
For families in Bar Das, the project represents more than a new piece of infrastructure. It provides a dependable community resource designed to serve residents over the long term.
How the Water Filtration Plant Works
The installed system uses a multi-stage cartridge-based filtration process. Different filtration stages help remove sediment, suspended particles and other unwanted substances from the incoming water.
The filtration process improves the overall quality and clarity of the water before it is made available to the community.
Like any filtration system, its continued effectiveness depends on regular inspection, maintenance and timely replacement of filter cartridges. Local involvement and ongoing monitoring are therefore important parts of maintaining the project.
From Water Testing to Installation
The water filtration project in Bar Das, Nagar was completed through a structured implementation process.
The project began with consultation with the local community to understand the need for improved drinking water. Water testing was then conducted to assess the existing source.
The implementation included:
- Identifying the community’s clean-water requirements.
- Testing the available water source.
- Forming a local volunteer committee.
- Selecting a suitable location for the plant.
- Constructing the filtration plant room.
- Installing and commissioning the filtration equipment.
- Conducting post-installation water quality testing.
- Inaugurating the facility for community use.
- Establishing ongoing monitoring and local support.
This structured approach helped ensure that the project addressed an identified community need and could continue operating beyond its initial installation.
Hadi Shehzad’s Support for Clean Water
The project was donated by Hadi Shehzad as part of efforts to improve access to essential resources for underserved communities.
Clean-water projects can create lasting benefits because their impact continues beyond the day of installation. A properly maintained filtration plant can provide water to families repeatedly, making it an important form of sustainable community support.
The contribution, together with support for the Aqeel Project and Kelly Marashi, helped turn the identified need in Bar Das into a functioning community water facility.
A Community Effort
Successful completion of the project also depended on the involvement of engineers, project staff, volunteers and members of the Bar Das community.
Local participation is particularly important for the long-term sustainability of water projects. Community volunteers can help oversee the facility, identify maintenance requirements and ensure that the filtration system continues serving residents effectively.
Their cooperation helped take the project from initial assessment through construction, installation and final inauguration.
Building a Future With Safer Water
The completion of the 500 LPH water filtration plant in Bar Das, Nagar represents an important investment in the community’s long-term wellbeing.
By improving access to filtered drinking water, projects like this can support healthier households and reduce dependence on untreated water sources.
